UNDATED (WHTC) - Doug Fister allowed just three hits with six strikeouts over eight innings, while batterymate Alex Avila's two-run double in the fifth inning stood up as the decisive hit, as the Tigers edged visiting Philadelphia last night, 2-1. The series at Comerica Park in Detroit continues this evening. Coverage on 1450 WHTC begins at 6:40 PM.

First baseman Brandon Belt let a ground ball to go through his legs in the top of the ninth inning, and the error allowed the Cubs to score twice to win at San Francisco last night, 3-2. The series at AT&T Park continues this evening.

James Shields scattered eight hits with two strikeouts over seven innings, as visiting Kansas City handled the White Sox last night, 5-1. The series at US Cellular Field in Chicago continues this evening.

Steady rains compelled Whitecaps officals to call off last night's scheduled game verus visiting Fort Wayne. The contest will be made up as part of a doubleheader when the Tincaps return to Fifth Third Ballpark, although an exact date between August 28 and August 30 wasn't immediately determined. West Michigan opens up a three-game series at South Bend this evening.
