HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) -- A Holland Township man was in Holland District Court on Friday where he pleaded guilty to attempted assault and resisting and obstructing police. 19-year-old Steven Darwin Boeve has been in the Ottawa County Jail since July 13th after being arrested by Holland Public Safety officers. Police responded to the area of Central Avenue and 16th Street in the early hours of July 13th. When they arrived on scene, Boeve and his accomplice, Gregory Lambers led police on a chase eastbound on 16th Street that ended with their car crashing into a motor home in the lot of Holland Motor Homes, just east of U.S. 31. Boeve is being held on a 15-thousand dollar bond and is set for sentencing on September 10th. Lambers waived a preliminary hearing and is free on 10 thousand dollars bond. Local activists accuse the two men of hate crimes for allegedly targeting parked vehicles of prominent African-Americans for vandalism and uttering a racial slur prior to the police chase; Holland Public Safety detectives are investigating those allegations.
