Tigers Lay Lumber on White Sox; Cubs Stay Up Late to Win


UNDATED (WHTC) - Anibal Sanchez allowed six hits with five strikeouts over six shutout innings, while Prince Fielder, Torii Hunter and Austin Jackson all slugged home runs, as the Tigers beat the White Sox in Chicago last night, 6-2. Detroit goes for the four-game series sweep at US Cellular Field this afternoon. Coverage on 1450 WHTC begins at 1:45 PM.

Nate Schierholtz homered and drove in five runs, including the game-winning tally with a 12th inning double, as the Cubs won at Arizona last night, 7-6. The finale of the four-game series at Chase Field in Phoenix is this evening.


Zach Elfin tossed seven innings of four-hit, three-strikeout baseball, as visiting Fort Wayne defeated the Whitecaps last night, 9-2. On an injury rehab assignment from the parent Detroit Tigers, Omar Infante returned to West Michigan for the first time since a 12-game stint in 2000, singling and getting hit by a pitch in four plate appearances. He and reliever Darin Downs, also on a rehab stint, are expected to see action this evening as the series at Fifth Third Ballpark continues.
