PIER COVE, MI (WHTC) - The bathing beach at Pier Cove Beach south of Saugatuck is closed due to Monday’s discovery of E. coli levels twice as much as the state permits there. Health department officials say that heavy rains may have led to a high bacterial runoff from Pier Cove Creek that polluted the waters. Other beaches along the Lake Michigan shoreline had very low E. coli levels. An update on the Pier Cove situation is expected later today.
