UNDATED (WHTC) -- The heat advisory along the Lakeshore and pretty much the state of Michigan has been extended through 11 p.m. tonight. There are hopes of a cool down over the weekend but to get there, we’ll have to go through showers and thunderstorms today and into tonight. Folks hoping to cool down by jumping into Lake Michigan tomorrow, be advised, the National Weather Service has issued a Beach Hazard Statement calling for dangerous swimming conditions today from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Beaches included in the advisory are in Ottawa, Allegan and Van Buren Counties. Coast Guard Chief Eli Paquette says they are ready to handle any problems that come along. Waves could build to three to six feet in height. Pay attention to the flags and the lifeguards. Don’t let children go into the water unsupervised and make sure they’re wearing approved flotation devices. The good news is that after the storms pass, we should see a cool down.
