UNDATED (WHTC) - Six communities are holding parades and five more will be staging fireworks shows during this Independence Day celebration along the Lakeshore. The biggest parades are planned for Saugatuck-Douglas and Ferrysburg, while the largest pyrotechnics may be over Lake Macatawa in Holland and over the Grand Haven Pier. There are also numerous picnics, carnivals, games and other events in Allegan and Ottawa counties to honor the nation’s 237th birthday. Most road projects are also suspended for the holiday weekend.
Meanwhile, rules for acts in Holland’s Street Performer Series that use fire were established by various city officials yesterday. A juggler and other attractions were stopped from having flames involved last month due to safety concerns that the new regulations are meant to address, such as a 15-foot buffer zone between themselves and spectators, and limiting their acts to the GDK Park and the splash pad along 8th Street. The new rules go into effect tonight and run through the Street Performer Series end on August 22nd.
