GRAND HAVEN, MI (WHTC) - The recovery of a Grand Rapids area paramedic in the waters of Lake Michigan continues. Ottawa County Sheriff’s Lieutenant Steve Kempker said that efforts ended around 7 PM last night to find the body of John English. Sheriff's divers from both Ottawa and Muskegon counties, along with the city of Norton Shores, combed an area north of Grand Haven using underwater cameras and side sonar throughout the day, but were unsuccessful.
The 47-year-old Walker man is presumed drowned after diving off of a pleasure craft about three quarters of a mile off of the shore near the Grand Haven channel and floundering in about 45 feet of 64-degree water on Sunday afternoon. A sparkler vigil by friends and colleagues of Life EMS at the Grand Haven pier was held last night. Kempker added that Ottawa County Sheriff’s crews will be back in the waters today to resume the search.
