WAYLAND, MI (WHTC) - A nearly 26-year veteran of the Michigan State Police is stepping down to become the new Police Chief of Wayland. First Lieutenant Steven Harper had been Commander of the Wayland Post when he vied for and secured the municipal position, which he will assume on Monday. Harper replaces interim chief John Slenk, who was known for his leading role during the Janet Chandler cold case murder investigation.
