GRAND HAVEN, MI (WHTC) - Yesterday, Ottawa County Circuit Court Judge Ed Post sentenced Justin McIntyre to between 19 months and 10 years in prison. Last month, Post found McIntyre guilty of second-degree child abuse involving his six-week-old boy who authorities say suffered permanent brain injuries after being “violently” shaken and having his head hit the corner of a closed laptop at the home of the boy’s maternal grandparents in Spring Lake last August. Prosecutors say that McIntyre was apparently frustrated by being unable to make the child stop crying, which led to the assault. The infant is recovering at the home of his mother. The sentence was the longest available under state law for a first-time convict of second-degree child abuse.
