OTSEGO, MI (WHTC) - The family of fallen US Army Sergeant Mark Schoonhoven has scheduled two visitation sessions at the Winkel Funeral Home in Otsego for Wednesday, followed by an 11 AM funeral service at that site on Thursday, with a full military burial at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta. Schoonhoven died on Sunday, more than a month after suffering injuries from a roadside bomb that exploded while on duty near Kabul, Afghanistan. It was his fifth tour of duty since joining the Army in 2006. Schoonhoven was the second Plainwell High graduate to fall during combat in Afghanistan after Private Thomas Allers died in May of 2011.
