Weather Curtails Prep Basketball Along Lakeshore; Hope to Host Two Tonight

UNDATED (WHTC) - The high school basketball schedule along the Lakeshore last night was already scheduled to be less than full, but when weather conditions compelled officials at most districts to call off contests, there were only three games left that were played. Hamilton’s boys beat visiting Grandville, 53-39, while at Zion Christian, Calvary’s girls won, 38-29, but the Crusaders’ boys fell, 57-46.

Rescheduled for this evening are games between Saugatuck and Martin, with the boys playing at Martin and the girls in Saugatuck, and between Fennville and Bloomingdale, with the boys playing at Bloomingdale and the girls in Fennville. No other makeup dates were immediately announced. Hope College has a varsity basketball doubleheader at DeVos Fieldhouse this evening, with complete coverage on 92.7 The Van and http://927thevan.com/listen-live, beginning at 5:40 PM with the Flying Dutch entertaining Kalamazoo, and concluding at 7:40 PM with the Flying Dutchmen hosting Trine.

In state major college basketball last night, Michigan State won at Wisconsin, 49-47. This evening, Eastern Michigan is at Western Michigan, while Central Michigan is home to Northern Illinois.

Michael Ryder scored twice as visiting Dallas spoiled the Red Wings’ home opener last night, 2-1. Detroit welcomes Minnesota to Joe Louis Arena on Friday evening.

Goals by Patrick Kane, Brent Seabrook and Viktor Stalberg enabled the Blackhawks to edge visiting St. Louis in the United Center home opener last night, 3-2. Chicago skates at Dallas on Thursday evening.

In minor pro hockey this evening, the Grand Rapids Griffins host Oklahoma City at Van Andel Arena.
