WEST OLIVE, MI (WHTC) - Ottawa County's Cold Case Investigative Unit has apparently unraveled another long-standing, real-life murder mystery along the Lakeshore. Authorities on Monday announced the arrest of 50-year-old Ryan Wyngarden, the brother of Gail Brink, who along with her husband Rick, were found dead at their Ransom Street home in Park Township in November, 1987. At the time, both bodies had multiple gunshot wounds, with no signs of sexual assault or robbery. Wyngarden had been a person of interest throughout the years, but there had been no solid evidence apparently tying him with the crime until the unit took up the case 13 months ago. County Prosecutor Ron Frantz and Sheriff Gary Rosema didn't immediately explain the circumstances that led to last Friday's arrest of Wyngarden, who was arraigned on open murder chargers before Holland District Court Judge Brad Knoll on Monday and ordered held without bond.
The Cold Case Unit has had a string of successes in recent years, highlighted by the capture and conviction of those responsible in the Janet Chandler murder.
