Doubleheader Play in High School Basketball Along Lakeshore Tonight


UNDATED (WHTC) - It’s doubleheader action throughout the Lakeshore in high school basketball this evening, with both the boys and girls varsity teams competing in back-to-back contests. We’ll carry the Holland Christian at Zeeland West boys’ game on 1450 WHTC and http://whtc.com/listen-live, beginning at 5:40 PM. Both of the Gobles at Saugatuck contests air on 92.7 The Van and http://927thevan.com/listen-live, starting at 5:10 PM. Other match ups include Holland at Unity Christian, West Ottawa at East Kentwood, Zeeland East at Mona Shores, Byron Center at Hamilton, Fennville at Bangor, and Calvary at Black River.


Grand Valley State swept a basketball doubleheader in Sault Ste. Marie from host Lake Superior State last night. In the opener, Kristers Zeidaks had 16 points and 10 rebounds, as the GVSU men downed the Soo Lakers, 71-62. Briauna Taylor tallied 13 points as the women took the nightcap, 69-56. The Lakers return home to the Fieldhouse Arena tomorrow evening in another twin bill, this time hosting Northwood.

In state major college basketball last night: Michigan won at Minnesota, 82-75; Valparaiso rallied to win at Detroit, 89-88; and Oakland downed visiting Missouri-Kansas City, 81-68.

Tomorrow afternoon, the Hope Flying Dutchmen are at Olivet, with coverage on 92.7 The Van and http://927thevan.com/listen-live at 5:10 PM, while the Flying Dutch women travel to Trine.


Carmelo Anthony tossed in 26 points as New York defeated the Pistons yesterday, 102-87, in a game played in London, England. Detroit returns to the Palace of Auburn Hills on Sunday night to host Boston, after the Celtics entertain the Chicago Bulls at the TD Garden this evening.


Gustav Nyquist had a goal and an assist in the Griffins’ three-goal rally during the third period, as Grand Rapids salvaged a split of a two-game series in Charlotte by beating the Checkers last night, 5-3. The Griffs are in Rockford, Illinois to face the IceHogs on Saturday evening.


The Red Wings open up an abbreviated regular season tomorrow night by skating at St. Louis. Hear all of the action on 1450 WHTC, starting at 7:40 PM.
