UNDATED (WHTC) - Two separate fires kept crews in the Lakeshore busy yesterday.
Two Holland Public Safety firefighters suffered minor injuries when a ceiling collapsed on top of them while they were putting out a second-floor blaze in a building at the Harbor Village Apartments complex yesterday morning. The men were treated at Holland Hospital and released. Residents in all of 24 units in building D were safely evacuated, but were displaced by water and fire damage of over 250 thousand dollars. Investigators didn't immediately determine an official cause of the blaze, but there were reports that an unattended candle ignited the flames that caused the fire.
Meanwhile, crews from eight departments responded to a house fire in Zeeland Township yesterday afternoon, and they needed a crane to remove the steel roof from the two-story structure on the Hillside Farms property off of 84th Avenue to bring the flames under control. It was not known if anyone was inside at the time; no injuries were reported. A determination of a cause, along with a damage estimate, wasn’t immediately made.
