KALAMAZOO, MI (WHTC) - It’s a case of out of the frying pan and into the fire for a 36-year-old Allendale man. Anthony Fortuna had an 18-year-long record of petty crimes when he was sitting in the Ottawa County Jail, fearful of a stretch in state prison as a repeat offender. Apparently in an effort to get out of such a fate, Fortuna told authorities that he had planned to blow up the federal building in Grand Rapids and the Palisades nuclear power plant near Covert. Extensive investigations at both sites found no explosives. On Monday, Fortuna was sentenced to the maximum of five years in federal prison for making such false statements, with three years after that of supervised release.
