LISLE, IL (WHTC) - The Nuclear Regulatory Commission will hold a one-hour “webinar” at 11 AM today to what officials say “discuss previous through-wall leaks” at the Palisades plant near Covert. Regional office staff will present information about such leaks, along with what steps plant operator Entergy have taken to correct the situation. The plant has been at the center of controversy for over two years, as numerous shutdowns due to operational errors in 2011 led to a ratings downgrade by the NRC last year, and several leaks in 2012 led to further shutdowns for precautionary purposes. There have been no instances of any public danger in these incidents, and both the NRC and Entergy say that the plant is operating safely, but environmental groups have targeted Palisades for demanding a complete shutdown.
