Former Detroit Mayor Kilpatrick placed on tether after alleged parole violation

DETROIT (WKZO) -- Former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick will have to wear a GPS tether and is confined to his mother's home as the Michigan Department of Corrections investigates whether he violated his parole by failing to report a financial gift.

Kilpatrick was seen on surveillance video at a Macomb County Walmart store last month picking up two-thousand dollars in a wire transfer from a Chicago pastor.  As part of his parole after serving his sentence in the text message scandal, the former mayor is required to disclose all gifts and forms of income to the state.

Kilpatrick will be able to go to court for his federal corruption trial, meet with his lawyers and keep any pre-approved employment commitments, but he will not be allowed to travel to his home in Texas.
