HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) - A thoroughly confounded Upjohn Institute economist George Erickcek went before the Michigan West Coast Chamber of Commerce for his annual January “Early Bird Breakfast” this morning. He admitted to a capacity crowd at the Haworth Inn that nobody could’ve seen the projected growth of nearly five percent for the Lakeshore economy in 2012.

When pinned down on whether the recently passed Right to Work legislation would spur the state’s economy, Erickcek said that improving the quality of goods and services will do more in the long run, and that the Lakeshore doesn’t need this extra business incentive.

Erickcek is predicting more modest growth over the next two years for the Lakeshore of 2.3 percent in 2013 and two percent for 2014 – “good years, but not the fantastic year you had in 2012.”
