COOPERSVILLE, MI (WHTC) - A two-vehicle accident east of Coopersville last night killed both drivers involved and critically injured a passenger.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Steve Austin, 84-year-old Edward Bylsma of Coopersville was driving his pickup truck westbound on Arthur Street around 6:30 PM when he approached 16th Avenue. Bylsma drove through a stop sign and broadsided the minivan of 45-year-old Steven Robin. Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene. An apparently unbuckled Bylsma was thrown from his vehicle upon impact, while Robin, from Conklin, was belted. Bylsma’s 81-year-old wife Elizabeth was taken to Spectrum-Butterworth Hospital for treatment.
Austin added that investigators won’t know until toxicology test results are back whether alcohol was a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
