DETROIT (WKZO) -- There are 16-percent fewer police officers in Michigan than there were ten years ago. Michigan State Police have nearly 19,000 officers today compared to over 22,000 in 2001. The FBI says even as the number of officers has fallen, though, violent crime has fallen in recent years around the state while Detroit's homicide rate in 2012 is its highest since 2008.
