HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC) - Crews from three Lakeshore departments spent the better part of six hours battling a blaze on Holland's North Side that caused significant damage to a boat storage building. The owners of the Lake Michigan Crematorium on Fifth Avenue notified authorities just before 11 AM on Saturday after seeing smoke coming from their building. The subsequent flames not only damaged the crematorium, which had not been in use for more than a day, but also a storage area where a number of pleasure boats had been located for winter drydocking. The building was vacant at the time of the blaze, and one firefighter suffered a minor injury and was treated and released from Holland Hospital. No cause or a damage estimate was initially made.
