GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WHTC) - Thanks in part to 29 points from Courtney Kust, Hope College claimed the MIAA women's basketball tournament title on Saturday by defeating host Calvin College at DeNoord Arena, 69-59. Rebekah Llorens' two free threw at the 6:32 mark of the second half put the Flying Dutch ahead to stay, and Hope had to hold off a late Lady Knights rally to claim the automatic NCAA tournament berth. Both teams are expected to receive post-season bids when they are released on Monday; the national finals will be at DeVos Fieldhouse in Holland on March 16,

In the nightcap, Brian Powell scored 18 points as Calvin's men downed the visiting Flying Dutchmen for the MIAA tournament crown, 77-57. Nate Snuggerud had 17 points in the losing cause. Hope is not expected to get a NCAA bid with a "pedestrian" 18-9 record.
