COVERT, MI (WHTC) - The control room operators at the Palisades Nuclear Plant have begun to slowly bring the reactor back into service after plugging a leak in a cooling water heat exchanger that took about six days to complete. The leak led to about 35 gallons of non-contaminated water spewing out hourly. Crews also replaced a damaged switch in the plant’s main switchyard while the facility near Covert was down for service, and lit the proverbial match at about 12:44 this morning. It will take several days to bring the plant back up to full operation.
