MIDLAND, MI (WHTC) - Public school superintendents in Ottawa and Allegan counties are, for the most part, not among the leaders on the statewide pay scale, in numbers culled from public documents last year and compiled by the conservative think tank Mackinac Center for Public Policy. The only two among the top 20 in Michigan were Keith Konarska of Grand Haven, ranked 11th at 264 thousand dollars, and Karen McPhee of the Ottawa Area Intermediate School District, with her 253 thousand-plus putting her at 15th. Tom Martin of West Ottawa is tops in the immediate Holland area at 220 thousand dollars, good for 43rd statwide. Center officials say that this information will help taxpayers know what kind of value they’re getting out of publicly funded schools.
