MANISTEE, MI (WHTC) - The White House is continuing its media offensive on the Sequester, as President Obama conducted separate interviews with local television stations in eight markets across the country, although none were in Michigan. He and the Democrats are looking to drum up public support for their agenda in preventing 85 billion dollars in budget cuts from going into effect next Friday. This came after Mr. Obama told reporters in Washington that Republicans such as Representative Bill Huizenga of Zeeland must “compromise” on raising taxes along with spending cuts. Responding in Manistee, where he was finishing up a snowmobile tour of the northern part of his district to bring attention to maintaining trails in the area, the second-term Republican said that what the President is doing is part of his "usual MO" on issues, and that it was the White House who pushed for the Sequester during previous budget impasses with Congress. Both the House and Senate return from the President’s Day holiday break next week.
