Another Busy Prep Basketball Night Along the Lakeshore; Hope Ends Season Play on Saturday


UNDATED (WHTC) - In high school boys’ basketball along the Lakeshore on Friday night: Holland beat visiting Byron Center, 55-42; Holland Christian won at Hamilton, 56-52; West Ottawa fell to visiting Hudsonville, 66-38; Zeeland East defeated visiting Muskegon, 56-49; Zeeland West lost at Unity Christian, 56-46; Fennville slipped at Tri-unity Christian, 61-45; and Black River succumbed at Fruitport Calvary, 43-41. Prep girls’ round ball action on Friday night saw Holland lose to Byron Center, 55-40; Hamilton down Holland Christian, 38-36; West Ottawa drop a 50-34 decision to Hudsonville; Zeeland East handle Muskegon, 49-47; Zeeland West slip to Unity Christian, 31-22; Saugatuck dispose of Lawton, 45-30; Fennville dump Marcellus, 40-32; and Black River fall to Fruitport Calvary, 48-35.

Grand Valley State’s basketball teams are in Midland to meet the host Northwood Timberwolves.

In state major college basketball on Saturday: Michigan State travels to Nebraska; Western Michigan is home to Northern Illinois; Central Michigan entertains Toledo; Eastern Michigan visits Ball State; Detroit plays at Valparaiso; and Oakland is at Missouri-Kansas City.


Andrew Cogliano scored two of Anaheim’s three third-period goals to break a 2-2 tie, and the visiting Ducks beat the Red Wings on Friday night, 5-2. Detroit skates at Minnesota on Sunday evening, with broadcast time on 1450 WHTC at 5:40 PM.

Niklas Hjalmarsson and Marcus Kruger each had a goal and an assist, as the Blackhawks downed visiting San Jose on Friday night, 4-1. Chicago is home to Los Angeles at the United Center on Sunday.
