PARK TWP., MI (WHTC) - One Lakeshore municipality was welcomed by the West Michigan Airport Authority board yesterday, while another will be shown in shortly. The panel accepted the request passed last week by the Holland Township board to join Holland, Zeeland and Park Township on the authority that operates West Michigan Regional Airport. The board also said that it would approve Zeeland Township’s application once that community’s board approves a similar resolution next Tuesday. The admissions hinge on voters in the two municipalities approving a one-tenth mill proposal on the May 7th ballot.
There was discussion during the authority board meeting on paying for the election costs in both communities, with an agreement that the authority, the promotion group Jobs and Economy Team and the townships would share in the cost. Concerns that this would be a one-issue election on May 7th could be unfounded after the Zeeland Board of Education last night approved putting two issues on those ballots concerning the annual 18-mill non-homestead tax renewal and a four-tenths of a mill recreation renewal levy; the Zeeland school district includes parts of both townships.
