Michigan right-to-work legislation lawsuit dropped, another filed

LANSING (WKZO) -- One Michigan right-to-work lawsuit has been tossed out while a new federal lawsuit has been filed.

A lawsuit challenging Michigan's new right-to-work laws has been dismissed by a judge in Lansing on a technicality.  An Ingham County Circuit Court judge has ruled that any challenge to the new laws need to be filed with the Michigan Court of Appeals instead.  The ACLU and several labor unions had sued to try to block the laws.

Meanwhile, the Michigan AFL-CIO and Building and Trades Council is challenging the law with a federal lawsuit.  The suit filed Monday claims the legislation violates the U.S. Constitution because private sector workers are covered by federal and not state law.

Right-to-work laws will take effect on March 27th.
