Grand Valley State was swept in a basketball doubleheader by host Michigan Tech in Houghton on Saturday. In the opener, Ben Stelzer talled 21 points as the Huskie men were victorious, 69-51. MTU completed the double win by taking the women’s contest afterward, 69-58, thanks in part to 23 points by Sam Hoyt. The Lakers host Lake Superior State in a twin-bill on Thursday evening.
In state major college basketball on Saturday: Michigan State won at Purdue, 78-65; Michigan lost at Wisconsin in overtime, 65-62; Ball State beat Western Michigan, 65-62; Kent State prevailed over Central Michigan, 87-72; Toledo eclipsed Eastern Michigan, 60-52; Detroit fell at Green Bay, 68-59; and Oakland downed South Dakota State, 88-83.
