OTSEGO, MI (WHTC) - Flags across Michigan are at half-staff today in honor of Mark Schoonhoven, the 38-year-old Army Sergeant killed in action while serving in Afghanistan. The Plainwell product was on his sixth tour of duty when he died, five weeks after being wounded from a roadside bomb on December 15th. His funeral is this morning at St. Margaret Catholic Church in Otsego, with burial slated for Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta. The six-year veteran was on his fifth tour of duty to that region. Fellow Plainwell High grad Thomas Allers, an Army Private, suffered a similar fate in May of 2011.
