UNDATED (WHTC) - Despite a Lake Effect Snow Warning that cancelled classes on Friday morning, high school basketball was played along the Lakeshore on Friday night. It was doubleheader action involving boys and girls varsity teams. Holland swept visiting Zeeland West by scores of 58-51 for the boys and 35-25 for the girls. Holland Christian split at Byron Center, with the Bulldogs winning the boys’ game, 61-50, but the Maroons taking the girls’ contest, 59-30. West Ottawa was swept out of Rockford by scores of 48-35 for the boys and 52-43 for the girls. Zeeland East took two at Kenowa Hills by scores of 67-46 for the boys and 66-31 for the girls. Hamilton split a pair of Unity Christian, with the Crusaders winning the boys’ game, 43-41, but the Hawkeyes took the girls’ contest, 43-27. Fennville took two at Saugatuck by scores of 70-60 for the boys and 37-27 for the girls.

Hope College has both of its basketball teams in action on Saturday afternoon. Grand Valley State also has both of its basketball teams in action on Saturday afternoon, but they are at the same venue, as the Lakers battle the Bulldogs at Ferris State.

Henrik Zetterberg scored three goals and set up two others, as the Red Wings beat visiting St. Louis on Friday night, 5-3. Detroit skates at Columbus on Saturday evening, with broadcast time on 1450 WHTC at 6:40 PM.
Brandon Knight scored 20 points with 10 assists, as the Pistons beat visiting Cleveland on Friday night, 117-99. Detroit is home to the Los Angeles Lakers at the Palace on Sunday evening.
Brooklyn handled the visiting Bulls on Friday night, 93-89, as Brook Lopez led the Nets with 20 points, Chicago is in Atlanta on Saturday evening.
Thomas Tatar had the three-goal hat trick as the Griffins won at Hamilton on Friday night, 5-1. Grand Rapids welcomes Abbotsford to Van Andel Arena on Saturday evening.
