Lions Finish up Season Today Against Minnesota, Pistons and Bulls Lose, Red Wings Win

It’s the last day of the regular NFL season and the Lions will finish up today in Minnesota.  Hear the game on 1450 WHTC at noon today.  Also on Holland’s Hometown station today, Sunday Night Football sees Dallas at home against Philadelphia for the NFC East title with game coverage beginning at 7:30 P.M.

The Chicago Bears host Green Bay at Soldier Field in a game that will decide the NFC North crown in a late afternoon game.


The Michigan Wolverines lost to Kansas State, 31-14 in the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl in Tempe, Arizona.  True freshman Shane Morris, filling in for Devin Gardner, who was nursing a foot injury, completed 24-of-38 passes for 196 yards with an interception for Michigan. 

 ******************************************************************************************************************************2014 marks the 100th year for the Rose Bowl Tournament and it’s been years since Michigan State has made it to the Rose Bowl.  The Spartans are playing the Stanford Cardinals on New Year’s Day.  The last time the two teams met was in the 1996 Sunbowl with Stanford beating Michigan State, 38-0.

*******************************************************************************************************************************Brendan Smith and Gustav Nyquist scored within a minute of each other early in the third to help the Red Wings to a 4-3 win over the Panthers at the BB&T Center.  Daniel Alfredsson and Henrik Zetterberg scored in the first for Detroit while Jonas Gustavsson made 30 saves in the victory.  The Wings have won three out of their last four games.  The Red Wings travel to Nashville to take on the Predators.  Game coverage begins at 7:40 P.M. on Monday night.

 Kevin Shattenkirk scored the deciding goal of the shootout to lift the Blues to a 6-5 win over the Blackhawks Saturday night.  Patrick Kane had a goal and two helpers for Chicago while Andrew Shaw, Patrick Sharp, Brandon Saad and Brent Seabrook also lit the lamp.  The Blackhawks host the L.A. Kings on Monday night at the United Center.


The Grand Rapids Griffins topped the Rockford Ice Hogs on Friday, 4-2.  They are home to the Toronto Marlies on Monday night.


The Pistons lost to the Washington Wizards, 106-82 on Saturday night.  Greg Monroe led Detroit with 14 points and seven rebounds while Brandon Jennings chipped in with 13 points and six assists.  Will Bynum poured in 10 points off the bench as the Pistons lost their fourth in five games.

The Chicago Bulls fell to the Dallas Mavericks on Saturday night, 105-83.  Joakim Noah contributed 20 points and 10 rebounds for Chicago, which had won two in-a-row.  Taj Gibson and Carlos Boozer both had 13 points in the setback.


            The Hope College men’s basketball team travels to Crestview Hills, Kentucky to take part in the Coach Connor Classic on Monday and Tuesday.  Their first opponent is Centre.  Hear the game on 92-7 the Van and 92-7.com beginning at 4:40 P.M.

            Gary Harris had 19 points, nine rebounds, five assists and five steals for Michigan State who have won four straight. Adreian Payne scored 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds, while Denzel Valentine added 10 points, 13 rebounds and six assists.
