HOLLAND (WHTC) - A 20-year-old Holland man will stand trial on charges he used a butcher knife to threaten shoppers at a northside Family Fare store so he could steal a case of beer. Michael Calanchi was bound over to the Ottawa County Circuit Court Thursday on one count of armed robbery and two counts of resisting and obstructing police. Ottawa County investigators say Calanchi grabbed a knife from the housewares section of the Family Fare on Butternut Drive December 13, along with a case of beer. They allege Calanchi threatened shoppers and store employees with the knife as he tried to escape. Deputies used a taser to subdue the suspect after he allegedly threw objects at them. Calanchi is being held on a 100-thousand dollar bond.
