HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) -- Holland Public Safety officers were out in the cold and snow Christmas night. Fire and police personnel responded to the area of Columbia and 6th Street near Window on the Waterfront around 10 P.M. Two women chasing their dog were trapped in the ice and sub-surface mud covering the Macatawa Marsh. Working together, the fire and police personnel, with backup from the Park Township Fire Department, were able to get both women and their dog safely from the water. The women were taken to Holland Hospital for evaluation by American Medical Response. The Holland Department of Public Safety is reminding residents and visitors that venturing on the ice should be avoided unless the conditions of the ice, such as thickness and composition, are known and precautions are taken.
