UNDATED (WHTC) -- With the recent ice storms and more to come, homeowners should check their home insurance coverage. Lots of people experienced power outages this past weekend and local insurance agent Matt VanderPloeg says depending on what happens, you might be covered. Power outages off premises, such as transformers, is not covered. But, if you've done everything you can to prevent damage to your home, for example, draining pipes to prevent them from freezing and the power goes out, there are some instances where you will have coverage.
As far as driving goes, VanderPloeg says take it easy on the roadways. Single vehicle accidents involving slide offs are not covered because the usual determination is that if you slide off the road, you were driving too fast for conditions.
