The Merry Christmas vs Happy Holidays debate continues

UNDATED (WTVB) - Nearly half of Americans say a store or business should greet customers by saying "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas," according to a new survey conducted by the Public Religion Research Institute.  The poll finds that secular greetings are becoming more and more preferred, particularly by younger generations.  Two-thirds of respondents ages 18 to 29 say they support stores greeting customers with a more general phrase out of respect for those who practice faiths other than Christianity.  Only 39% of seniors agree, however.  Respondents are also divided by political affiliation.  61% percent of Republicans say they prefer "Merry Christmas," and 58% of Democrats want the opposite.
