UNDATED (WHTC) -- Legislators in west Michigan are announcing state and local transportation projects Thursday morning, including work to be done on I-196 near M-40. Earlier this month, MDOT officials approved the addition of a loop ramp on M-40 to carry traffic to eastbound I 196. That’s only a portion of the reconstruction planned for the 7-mile stretch of I-196 between the U.S. 31 split south of Holland to the Ottawa-Allegan County line. A 2011 study showed that during the afternoon rush hour, as many as 11-hundred vehicles, mostly 18-wheelers, are waiting to make a left turn onto eastbound I-196. The project is scheduled for completion in October of 2014. Part of the money for this project comes from the 115-million-dollar state Roads and Risk Reserve Fund.
