Red Wings, Blackhawks Lose, Griffins Win, Sunday Night Football on WHTC, Bears Play Today, Lions Play Monday Night

UNDATED (WHTC) -- The Sunday night game comes from Pittsburgh as the Steelers host the AFC North-leading Bengals.  Hear the game right here on 1450 WHTC with coverage beginning at 7:30 P.M.  Elsewhere in the NFL, the Bears are in Cleveland to take on the Browns today.  The Lions are at Ford Field for Monday Night Football taking on the reigning Super Bowl Champion Baltimore Ravens.  Catch the game on Holland’s Hometown Station at 7:30 P.M.

            The GVSU Lakers made it to the National Semi-finals, taking on the Northwestern Missouri Bearcats in Maryville, Missouri Saturday night, losing by a 27-13 margin.  GVSU, making its eighth national semifinal appearance since 2001, finished the 2013 campaign with a 12-3 mark.


Niklas Kronwall scored the lone goal for the Red Wings in a 4-1 loss to Pittsburgh on Saturday night. Redwings have lost three in a row and 12 of their last14 at home.  Jonas Gustavsson allowed four goals on 25 shots in the loss.  The Wings play against the Tampa Bay Lightning this afternoon, with coverage on 1450 WHTC starting at 4:40 P.M.       

The Chicago Blackhawks got thumped by the Maple Leafs in Toronto last night, 7-3.  They play the Los Angeles Kings later this afternoon at the United Center.

The Grand Rapids Griffins on Saturday earned their 17th win in the last 20 games and finished their longest home stand of the season with a 6-1 mark, courtesy of a 5-0 victory over the Milwaukee Admirals at Van Andel Arena.


Greg Monroe and Andre Drummond both recorded double-doubles as the Detroit Pistons held off the Brooklyn Nets for a 103-99 win at The Palace of Auburn Hills on Friday night.  They take on the Trailblazers at home this evening. 

 The Chicago Bulls got their fourth loss in five games as the Toronto Raptors beat them, 99-77 on Saturday night.  The Bulls face the Orlando Magic on Monday night at the United Center.

 The nationally ranked Hope College women’s basketball team got 20-point efforts from two players, giving them the win over Capitol (Ohio), 93-68.  That win also gave them the championship in the “Post Exam Jam.” 

 Both Grand Valley State basketball teams are on the road today, as the Lakers take on Tiffin in a GLIAC doubleheader in Ohio. The Laker women tip off at 2:00 p.m. against the Dragons, while the GVSU men will start at 4:00 p.m.

In other college basketball: The University of Michigan was stopped by Number 1 Arizona on Saturday, 72-70.  Number 5 Michigan held off Oakland, 67-63.
