HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC) - Employees and customers of a grocery store on Holland’s North Side were startled by a 20-year-old man with a butcher knife running through the aisles just after midnight this morning.
Nobody was wounded and everybody was able to get out of the Family Fare outlet on Butternut Drive, according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Detective Lieutenant Mark Bennett. When deputies arrived on the scene, the suspect started throwing items from the shelves at them. He was talked into dropping the knife, but still scuffled with deputies before being subdued by a Taser shot and taken into custody. None of the deputies involved were injured.
The suspect, reported identified as Michael Calanchi from Holland’s North Side, remains in the Ottawa County Jail awaiting a scheduled Monday arraignment in Holland District Court on various charges. The case remains under investigation.
