GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WHTC) - A 38-year-old Grand Rapids man remains behind bars after an alleged sexual assault of a 13-year-old Jenison girl that he had met online.
Manuel Salto was arraigned yesterday on several counts in Grand Rapids District Court. He was arrested at his home on Thursday, hours after picking up the unnamed victim. Investigators say that the two had been communicating over the Internet for “some time.” The victim’s parents had notified Ottawa County Sheriff’s Deputies earlier in the day about their daughter’s disappearance, and emails from the victim led detectives to Salto’s home, where the girl was recovered and returned to her family.
Salto, who has a prior conviction that has placed him on the state’s sex offender registry, was ordered held on 100 thousand dollars bond, and could face over two decades in prison if convicted. He has a December 13th preliminary hearing in Grand Rapids.
