UNDATED (WHTC) -- Snowy owls are being spotted around Southwest Michigan and an Allegan County trooper was able to get a shot of one of the beautiful birds. Southwest Michigan is the snowy owl’s winter home, migrating from Canada. Because the food supply on the arctic tundra is in short supply at this time of year. The snowy owl has been recorded as far south as Lansing. Winter bird watching requires some preparation including clothing and knowing the best places to spot the winter visitors. Local birding groups and the DeGraaf Nature Center are good sources of information.
