HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) -- The Washington Avenue project in Holland gave drivers headaches for most of the summer. At the end of the project, with crews trying to wrap up loose ends, Charles Christiaans made a mess out about 150 feet of wet concrete. On August 15th Holland Police say Christiaans drove his Jeep around the barricades, through a business parking lot and over a six-inch curb to get to the roadway. Construction workers followed the vehicle and contacted police when it stopped. The city dropped the criminal charges but Christiaans was cited for careless driving, fined $180 and received three points on his license. His insurance company will be paying more than 40-thousand dollars. The Holland City Council will vote on Wednesday to approve a release form and payment procedure. Hanover Insurance Group has requested that the payment be a joint check to the contractor and the city.
