ZEELAND, MI (WHTC) - There may be some residents in Zeeland’s Central Avenue and Division Street neighborhood that won’t be in a celebrating mood for tonight’s annual Magical Christmas Parade through downtown. They’re upset about not getting satisfaction from City Hall to their arguments that street work over the past several years has led to a number of flooded basements during strong storms, and they’re not happy about a proposed “position statement” that City Council may adopt in a meeting after tonight’s parade that would not lead to the city fully paying for repairs, but instead help in finding low-interest loans for those affected. Claims by the affected homeowners had been rejected by the Michigan Municipal League-backed insurance company used by the city.
