UNDATED (WHTC) -- The Michigan Department of Transportation is hoping that people will drive more safely after seeing a message board along the highway showing how many traffic fatalities there have been so far in 2013. With the last summer holiday weekend coming up, MDOT wants you to know that as of August 19th, there have been 533 traffic fatalities in the state of Michigan. The initiatives beGan only a month ago and at that time, the total was 440. Communications Rep John Richards says that 90% of all accidents are caused by driver error. Posting fatality messages on the Dynamic Message Signs is one simple and inexpensive way that MDOT can help educate the public on the scope of the issue.
