UNDATED (WTVB) - Oregon is the cheapest state in the nation in which to own a car. Michigan is right in the middle in 24th place. A survey by Bankrate.com shows that Oregon drivers pay around 22-hundred dollars per year to own and operate a car.  In Michigan, it’s $3,240. Here’s how it breaks down, on average: $317 for repairs; $976 for taxes and fees; $1,025 for gasoline; $921 for insurance. Georgia was the most expensive state to own a car with an annual cost of more than 42-hundred dollars.
