GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WHTC) - The first Air Quality Day of 2013 along the Lakeshore is today. The West Michigan Clean Air Coalition declared the caution for Allegan and Ottawa counties due to elevated levels of ozone. Residents are asked to hold off on polluting activities such as filling gas tanks, taking extra trips, and running small fuel engines until dusk. MAX Transit will be offering free rides on its fixed bus routes in an effort to cut down on traffic volume. It’s the latest a first air quality advisory for the year has been issued for this region since the system was established in 1995. Air conditions are expected to improve by Thursday morning.
