DNR Stocks Walleye Ponds

UNDATED (WHTC) -- If you love fishing for walleye, you’ll be pleased to know that the Department of Natural Resources has stocked more than 4-million fingerlings in 30 walleye ponds around Michigan.  Locally, that includes the Kalamazoo River at Allegan Dam and Selkirk Lake in Wayland.  The process starts with taking eggs from adult walleye and then hatched at the Thompson and Wolf Lake state fish hatcheries.  A few days after hatching, they are moved to the walleye ponds where they stay for about two months.  The fish are then moved to public waters and will reach legal size in four to five years.  Volunteers help with the program and if you’re interested, visit michigandnr.com
