Detroit bankruptcy consultant fees draw questions

DETROIT (WKZO) -- Detroit’s bankruptcy consultant fees are drawing questions from the city’s unions.  The city is reportedly paying a 22-year-old financial analyst, who graduated from college last year, 275-dollars an hour.

The recent graduate is employed by Conway MacKenzie, a consulting firm that billed the city close to 290-thousand-dollars for work done by eleven staffers over a two-week period in July.  While some critics question paying a 22-year-old 275-dollars an hour, Bill Nowling, spokesperson for Detroit Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr, says the hourly amounts were negotiated as flat rates so there are others with more experience handling the matter as well.

Conway MacKenzie’s contract allows it to bill up to 400,000-dollars every two weeks for its work.
