UNDATED (WHTC) - Max Scherzer allowed four hits with five strikeouts over seven innings for his 17th win in 18 decisions this season, as the Tigers completed their first four-game road series sweep in seven years by winning in Cleveland last night, 10-3. Detroit carries a 12-game winning streak and a seven-game lead in the divisional race into this evening’s opener of a three-game series in New York against the Yankees. Coverage on 1450 WHTC begins at 6:40 PM.

Cody Asche, John McDonald and Darin Rue each slugged a two-run homer, powering Philadelphia past the visiting Cubs yesterday, 12-1. Chicago opens up a three-game series in St. Louis this evening.

Idle yesterday, the White Sox play a day-night doubleheader versus Minnesota at US Cellular Field in Chicago today, beginning a four-game series against the visiting Twins.

Dean Green hit two homers and drove in three runs, but the Whitecaps needed a Jason King single in the ninth to score the tie-breaking run, as they won in Lansing last night, 5-4. The rubber game of the series at Cooley Law School Stadium is this evening.

Both the Lions and the Bears begin pre-season action tonight, with Detroit hosting the New York Jets at Ford Field, and Chicago traveling to Charlotte to face the Carolina Panthers.
