UNDATED (WHTC) -- A local State Representative is trying to make sure that local fire departments are reimbursed when they put out fires on state land. Bob Genetski of Saugatuck talks about what House Bill 4929 can do. He says that a few years back there was a fire in the Allegan Forest in Valley Township. The Township had to pay for the fire to be put out without any help from the state. The Forest Development Fund is currently used for financing forest management operations. Genetski’s bill inserts reimbursing local government costs for forest fire suppression on state-owned land as the second priority of the fund.
